Massage Therapy

Massage | What is a Massage?
Massage is the therapeutic practice of manipulating the muscles and limbs to ease tension and reduce pain. The purpose of massage is to relax the tissue, increase the flow of blood and oxygen, and decrease pain. Massage can be a part of physical therapy or practiced on its own. It can be effective for reducing the symptoms of disorders or pain in the muscles and nervous system, and it is often used to reduce stress.
How Should I Prepare for a Massage?

Each Massage appointment with Copper Tree Retreat is customized for you and your physical and mental needs that day. Our licensed medical massage therapists are skilled in multiple modalities and will mindfully determine the best types of massage therapy needed to work through a specific problem spot or to help you find the relief you came in for.
Come to your massage appointment well hydrated. Ultimately, stressed muscles lead to inflammation and toxin builds up that can block essential nutrients and oxygen contributing to pain and stress. A massage will start to break up and release those built-up toxins and get your blood and oxygen circulating. Staying hydrated before and after your massage is recommended to help flush the released toxins out of your body. Remember to breath normally and do not be afraid to communicate any questions or concerns with your therapist.

What Can I Expect During My Massage?
You will be asked to undress to your comfort level as your therapist waits outside of the room. Your therapist will always make sure you are respected, comfortable, and properly covered throughout your session. You may fall asleep but you will leave feeling relaxed and revitalized.

According to the University of New Hampshire Health Services, hot massage stones are heated to between 130 and 145 degrees. The stones may be placed along your spine, on your stomach, on your chest, on your face, on your palms, on your feet and toes. Massage therapists may hold heated stones as they massage your body using Swedish massage techniques. Sometimes, cold stones are also used during a hot stone massage. Cold stones may be used after hot stones to calm any engorged blood vessels and to soothe the skin.
